Upcoming Beginners Trip
Christina is organising a beginners trip this Sunday 13 July. Meeting at VUCC gear shed at 9:00am and heading off from there. Remember to bring lots of warm clothes as it's going to be cold.

Reminder that VUCC has a pool night every Thursday 8:30-10:00pm where you can socialise, play around, practice your paddling skills and learn new skills.

.Snow Kayaking!
A heavy dump which closed all roads South and a hill with a lake at the bottom was all the ingredience needed for a whole heap of fun (and carnage).

.Winter Paddle on the Local

Huka falls again
Congratulations to Jo, Paul, Juno and Garth for successfully running Huka Falls.
Check out Paul's video of Huka and the rest of the trip.

Upturned kayak spotted on swollen Hutt river
A trip on the Whakatikei river ended with the Police Launch "Queen Elizabeth" and the Westpac helicopter being called out. For those who missed reading about it, here is the Hutt News article published in January.

Vucc now planns to run Local Beginner trips on the 1st Weekend of each month. The next trip is the 5th of April, see the Events page for more details

A few lucky VUCCers braved the rains to Paddle the Hutt Gorge at high flow last weekend. Feast on the Two trip reports

Update: Paul Mason's trip report (pdf)

Around 30 VUCCers went away on the 2007 Easter trip to the central North Island. Thanks to everyone for the photos.

Andrew Croskery has written this trip report on an eventful beginners trip to the Otaki in March 2007.

Vucc's 2007 beginners trip was a great success, with 14 making the journey to Mangaweka, along with 7 volunteer instructors. We had good flows on the Rangitikei, and as expected, more than a few swims and plenty of T rescues to keep the instructors busy. It was good to see the campground at Mangaweka busy, with paddlers from Hutt Valley also staying, and a 24 hour race passing through. Photos thanks to Andrew Croskery

Checkout the Latest on James Coubrough & John Heaton's travels in India and Nepal. They've been featured in the playak.com newsletter, and seem to be having a great time.

Photos from the Easter trip have been posted. Easter saw a rather large group of VUCCers (around 20ish) paddle various rivers around the central North Island. Thanks to Dean F for organising, and to everyone who took photos.

We have updated the map of NZ rivers with pics from this past summer's paddling. We have added 16 new rivers to the map with some of the highlights being:
Hollyford River: Falls Creek, Grade 3-4,
Arthur River, Grade 3-4,
Hollyford River: Marion Creek, Grade 4-5,
Whitcombe River, Grade 4
Waikato River : Huka Falls, Grade 4-5
Whanganui River, Grade 2
.

11 new students were introduced to the joys of whitewater on the 2006 overnight beginner's course. An enjoyable time was had by all, even with the lack of pudding..

Congrats to James, who knocked off Huka Falls on Anniversary Weekend. Here is his trip report.

James is dominating again with an outstanding performance at the Wairoa Extreme Race 06

Duncan & Lincoln ran a beginners trip on the Otaki on the 3rd of Dec. The trip went well, with only a few swims, and a couple of first river rolls to mark the trip. Photos

Here is a trip report of the first decent (we think) of the Nardoo Creek near Murchison by Timon, James and Duncan.

Photos from a few of the clubs recent trips are now available: Otaki ,Castlepoint and the Access 10, 13 & 14 releases on the Tongariro
Update: Labour Weekend at Murchison

A good turnout at the VUCC AGM saw the election of a new committee for 2005. It was a case of "out with the old and in with the new" with only one member from the previous committee retaining their position in the new committee.

We have a Trip report relating Croskery's recent South Island Kayaking Adventures. And Pictures and a Trip report are in from this year's Easter Trip, thanks to Garth, Christina and Dean Ford

The VUCC beginner's course of 2005 was a huge success. Check out the full Gallery of the Mangaweka Trip. And photos from the Otaki beginners trip.
